EMEC and EMECnet at SMM2010
On the 6th of September 2010 the opening of the SMM exhibition in Hamburg lent itself perfectly to a meeting of the exclusive members of the EMEC Network (EMECnet).
The CEO's of Kongsberg Maritime, Rockwell Automation, Becker Marine Systems, SAM Electronics and Germanischer Lloyd had the perfect opportunity to discuss major issues currently affecting the maritime equipment industry in a relaxed and informal environment.
The EMECnet Chairman, Mr. Jaakko Eskola (Wärtsilä), gave an exclusive interview to the organisers of SMM. Amongst other things the Global Maritime Environmental Congress (GMEC) and the contribution made by the marine equipment sector were discussed. The conclusion of the discussion was that the industry appreciates the initiative. It is a good attempt at enlarging the SMM exhibition to shipping, creating networking opportunities under a green umbrella.
However Mr. Eskola believes that the contribution and role of the marine equipment suppliers is not properly recognized. If, in the future, there is any similar congress it should not miss the opportunity to integrate properly in the organizing committee and programme marine equipment company representatives. The marine equipment industry is the problem solver of many of the issues raised. Without their presence at such an event would be like a ship without an engine, the absence of the real drivers of the green discussion.
GMEC is a good initiative that can be improved. EMEC and the marine equipment industry are therefore ready and willing to play an active role and cooperate with this congress in the future.
EMECnet will meet again on the 1st of December 2010 in conjunction with the General Assembly of EMEC to be held in Brussels.
The EMEC Network (EMECnet) ensures that European Marine Equipment maintains world leading status and technological edge through influencing policy and providing support to policy decision makers.
