EMEC elects its new board
Brussels, May 10th, 2011
European Marine Equipment Council (EMEC), representing the interests of the technology providers in the maritime sector, appointed its new Board.
The Board of EMEC will be made up of prominent marine equipment industry representatives delegated by the member National Associations for a two year term.
Mr. Lars Gorvell-Dahll (KONGSBERG) was appointed President. Mr. Dirk Lehmann (BECKER MARINE SYSTEMS) and Mr. Philippe Lecois (CONVERTEAM) were elected Vice Presidents.
The outgoing President Mr. Jaakko Eskola (WARTSILA) thanked the EMEC members and EMEC Secretariat for all of their hard work and support for the Association over the years. He also wished Mr. Gorvell-Dahll the ‘best of luck’ in his new position.
The remaining board members will be delegated by the National Associations in the coming months. Those already confirmed are: Mr. Paolo Lotti (FINCANTIERI), Mr. Ziya Gökalp (GOKALP SHIPPING) and Mr. Kjeld Dittmann (LYNGSOE MARINE).
The Executive Committee stated that they want EMEC to be a “true and powerful political tool” for the benefit of the European marine equipment manufacturers. EMEC needs to “work more closely with foreign entities, considering that more than 60% of the European marine equipment sectors turnover is outside Europe”.
EMEC will maintain and strive for good cooperation with their maritime stakeholder partners, in particular the ship-owners and shipyards. It will also support and assist the European Union with its ongoing work on behalf of the maritime sector and will remain committed to promoting policy choices favouring safety at sea and environmental protection.
